National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth – ‘The Leaders of Tomorrow’ – into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The genesis of the NCC can be traced back to the first world war when Britishers created the University Corps as the second line of defence and to have a large pool of trained youth available for employment into the Armed Forces. After independence, the present day NCC under the Ministry of Defence came into existence on 16 April 1948 through NCC act XXXI, 1948. NCC was formally inaugurated on 15 Jul 1948 as soon as the schools and colleges reopened after summer vacation. The Girls Division of the NCC was started in Jul 1949. In 1950 Air Wing was added on 01 Apr with one Air squadron each at Bombay and Kolkata. The Naval Wing of the NCC was raised in Jul 1952, thus completing the true representation of all services in the Corps. Presently, NCC has approximately 13 Lakhs Cadets under its fold.
The ‘Aims’ of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio–economic scenario of the country. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.
Our enrolled cadets learn different activities as given in their syllabus:
On successful completion of the laid down syllabi, cadets of Junior Division/ Wing are eligible for ‘A’ certificate examination and cadets of Senior Division/Wing for ‘B’ & ‘C’ certificate examinations. These are open for the cadets who have attended requisite number of periods and camps during their training.

NCC facilitates access to high potential sports like Football, Hockey and Shooting to talented cadets so as to hone their team and sports skills. NCC teams regularly participate and excel in National level events like Subroto Cup Football, Nehru Cup Hockey and National Shooting.
One of the most important soft skill a NCC Cadet acquires over the course of his/ her NCC trainings is Conflict Management. Conflict Management is a complex and prevalent phenomenon that exists in our society. Conflict Management can also be examined in terms of personal and group orientation, such as interpersonal, intergroup and intra group conflict. The focus of this camp was the acquisition of general conflict Management abilities by NCC Cadets. It is a term used to describe the ways in which people interact in terms of affiliation, agreement, or difference of opinion.

Brigadier S.P. Sinha -Chief Guest and Colonel Short Singh - Guest of Honour, inaugurated the Army Training Centre and gave a special meaning to the ceremony with their gracious presence. They shared their words of wisdom with the students and staff of GIS.
